The Demetriades - Tsafka - Kokkalis Prizes
The Demetriades - Tsafka - Kokkalis Prizes were endowed by a generous grant from Sterge Demetriades and his wife Anna Kokkalis Demetriades. Learn more about the family.

Each prize in the first four categories below recognizes outstanding PhD work by a Caltech graduate student in the noted areas. The prize comes with a cash award, and the winners are recognized in a special event prior to Commencement.

  • Biotechnology or Related Fields,
  • Environmentally Benign Renewable Energy Sources or Related Fields,
  • Nanotechnology or Related Fields, and
  • Seismo-Engineering, Prediction, and Protection

The prize in Entrepreneurship or Related Fields is open to both graduate students and undergraduate students across the Institute, and is awarded to a graduating student for the best business plan, proposal, start-up, or related efforts at Caltech.

Nominations are due May 15, 2024

Nominations from Caltech faculty members should be submitted by email to Winter Koifman by sending the name and the PhD thesis of the nominee; please indicate which prize you are nominating for. For the Entrepreneurship prize, please provide the name, CV and business plan of the nominee.

The Demetriades - Tsafka - Kokkalis Prizes are announced at Caltech commencement each year.

The Demetriades - Tsafka - Kokkalis Prize is administered by the Caltech Division of Engineering and Applied Science.
